LumièreSkin

How we formulate

The numbers are on the label

The entire range rests on one rule: if we will not print the concentration, we do not make the product. Everything below follows from it.

LUMIÈRE3:1:1

A short range, on purpose

There are 18 products here. Every one of them exists because a step in a routine needed it, and none of them exists to fill a gap in a price ladder. When something is reformulated we say so and change the date on the carton.

We buy in small batches because actives degrade. Vitamin C oxidises, retinaldehyde is light-sensitive, and both are worse for sitting in a warehouse for a year. A smaller batch means a shorter shelf life and a fresher bottle.

We are not claiming to be the cheapest or the most luxurious. We are claiming that you can read every product here and know exactly what you are buying, which is a lower bar than it should be.

Six commitments

What we hold ourselves to

Concentration

Every active is declared, as a number

L-ascorbic acid 15%. Niacinamide 10%. Retinaldehyde 0.06%. If a formula cannot state its percentage it does not go on the shelf, because below the studied range a famous ingredient is decoration.

The full list

INCI on the carton, in descending order

Not a marketing list of five hero ingredients. The complete ingredient list, in the order a regulator requires, printed on the box you are holding — and repeated on every product page here.

Fragrance

None by default

The clinical range carries no added fragrance and no essential oils, because fragrance is the most common cause of contact reaction in skincare. Where a scent exists it comes from the botanical itself and is declared in the INCI.

The ratio

Proportions over percentages

Ceramides only rebuild a barrier in the 3:1:1 ratio the skin uses, alongside cholesterol and fatty acids. A 2% figure means nothing without the ratio, so we print both.

Claims

Nothing we cannot show you

No "clinically proven", no before-and-after taken in different light, no counting water as an active. Where a benefit takes eight weeks we say eight weeks.

Returns

30 days, opened or not

A formulation you cannot test is one you cannot judge. Use it for a month; if your skin disagrees, send it back and we refund it.

Why this exists

From a spreadsheet to a shelf

The problem

A shelf full of the same five ingredients

It started with a spreadsheet: thirty serums from thirty brands, and not one of them stating a concentration. The same niacinamide, the same hyaluronic acid, wildly different prices, and no way to tell them apart except the bottle.

The rule

Nothing ships without its number

So we wrote the one rule the whole range is built on: if we will not print the concentration, we will not make the product. That single constraint removed about half the ideas we had.

Today

18 products, six shelves

Questions

Asked often enough to answer here

Do I need all four steps?

No. Cleanser and sunscreen do the most work; everything between them is refinement. If you buy two things, buy those two.

Can I use vitamin C and a retinoid together?

Vitamin C in the morning, retinoid at night. Both at once on the same skin is where most irritation comes from, and there is no benefit to stacking them.

My skin stings when I use anything. What now?

Stop everything except a plain moisturiser for two weeks. The Barrier Reset Kit exists for exactly this, and it contains no acids, no retinoids and no fragrance.

How long before I see anything?

Hydration shows within days. Texture and tone take eight to twelve weeks. Anything promising overnight change is either hydrating you temporarily or misleading you.

Are these products tested on animals?

No. They are patch tested on human volunteers under supervision, which is both the regulatory requirement in our markets and the only test that tells you anything useful about irritation.

Still deciding?

The Full Ritual is the four steps at full size, with a card that tells you what order and how much of each. It is the shortest path from confused to a routine that works.
